The
CFTR has moved to its new facility in 1997 after many years of operation
within a constricted environment. The new buildings have been designed
to further adapt to the state-of-the-art technology and allow for
a better use of the space. Laboratories and simulation rooms have
been brought together near the classrooms.
The
area intended for practical courses is located near the garages
and road circuits. The cleaning and maintenance stations have been
grouped together to allow for more space to perform back-up manuvres
and cargo transfers. Driving activities are closely monitored from
an observation station, which also overlooks all the road circuits.
Its main area of concentration being professional development, the
CFTR is always looking to reflect the reality of the trades found
in the road transport industry. The architectural style of the building,
which is made of stone and metal, resembles that of an industrial
building. Thanks to the renovation and extension of the existing
buildings, the site is better suited to carry out the educational
and training roles of the Centre.
The Centre is mainly comprised of the following:
- Seven classrooms
- A simulation room
- A computer laboratory
- A dispatch room
- A training workshop which can be divided into 2 separate
workspaces
- A training warehouse with 6 loading docks
- A mechanical workshop
- A cleaning station
- A teacher's room
- A staff room with kitchen
- A conference room
- A student cafeteria
- Two administrative staff rooms.
The total surface area is 3834 square metres.
On the occasion of the contest relating to the 2nd international
Florilège for exemplary educational establishments, the Organization
for Economical Cooperation and Development (OECD) has awarded
the CFTR with a distinction in the category Management and Use
of Space. "The international jury acknowledges that the
CFTR is one of the best designed educational establishments in the
present day", Richard Yelland, Coordinator for the educational
equipment and construction program (Paris, autumn 2000).
